Meteorological and climatic variability influences anthropogenic microparticle content in the stomach of the European anchovy Engraulis encrasicolus

چکیده
Meteorological and climatic phenomena affect oceanographic characteristics and, consequently, anthropogenic microparticle aggregation. The same influence the ecology of pelagic fish, but whether there is a connection between meteorological ingestion remains unknown. In NW Mediterranean during springs 2011–2014, incidence contaminated European anchovies (35 ± 17%) abundance in stomach content (0.46 0.25 microparticles ind−1) may have owed to higher concentrations due hydrodynamism. Year 2011 showed fragment contribution (60 17%). statistical analysis indicated link characteristics, with low North Atlantic Oscillation index values for previous cold season indicating transport water from polluted Tyrrhenian Sea. Low-density microplastic (polyethylene polypropylene) was found, selection behaviour anchovy. Fibre remained quite constant throughout 4-year period, pointing diffused input not dependent on forcing. 2012, were subjected bottom-up limitation, adverse forcing (high early spring temperatures, rainfall). mainly ingested fibres through less energy-expensive filter-feeding. Therefore, regulates intake by fish should be considered pollution mitigation.

Coupling Demographic and Genetic Variability from Archived Collections of European Anchovy (Engraulis encrasicolus)
It is well known that temporal fluctuations in small populations deeply influence evolutionary potential. Less well known is whether fluctuations can influence the evolutionary potentials of species with large census sizes. Here, we estimated genetic population parameters from as survey of polymorphic microsatellite DNA loci in archived otoliths from Adriatic European anchovy (Engraulis encrasi...
متن کاملStructure and spectral sensitivity of photoreceptors of two anchovy species: Engraulis japonicus and Engraulis encrasicolus
The morphology, fine structure and spectral sensitivity of retinal photoreceptors of two anchovy species were investigated using light and electron microscopy and microspectrophotometry. Distinct regional specialisation of cones was observed. Long and short (bilobed) cones were observed in the horizontal retinal belt, including the nasal and temporal retinal zones. Only triple cones with two lo...
متن کاملSNP Discovery in European Anchovy (Engraulis encrasicolus, L) by High-Throughput Transcriptome and Genome Sequencing
Increased throughput in sequencing technologies has facilitated the acquisition of detailed genomic information in non-model species. The focus of this research was to discover and validate SNPs derived from the European anchovy (Engraulis encrasicolus) transcriptome, a species with no available reference genome, using next generation sequencing technologies. A cDNA library was constructed from...

Links between parasitism, energy reserves and fecundity of European anchovy, Engraulis encrasicolus, in the northwestern Mediterranean Sea
The European anchovy, Engraulis encrasicolus L. 1758, is one of the most sought-after target species in the northwestern Mediterranean Sea. However, this stock currently consists of small individuals, and landings are reported to have decreased considerably. The main purpose of this study was to assess, for the first time, the interrelationships between size, fecundity, energy reserves and para...
